Cincinnati Eye Institute Physician Honored for Contributions in Corneal Disease

Michael Nordlund, M.D., Ph.D., a cornea specialist at Cincinnati Eye Institute (CEI), received the prestigious R. Townley Paton Award at the American Academy of Ophthalmology annual conference held in November in New Orleans, La.

Dr. Nordlund is an ophthalmic surgeon specializing in corneal and ocular surface disease, cataracts and refractive surgery. In addition to his clinical work, he is assistant professor in the department of ophthalmology at the University of Cincinnati. His work has been published in numerous scientific papers, and he has authored several chapters in textbooks on the ocular surface, cornea and cataract surgery. He continues to lecture at national and international meetings on corneal and ocular surface disease and cataract surgery.

The Paton Award is the Eye Bank Association of America’s (EBAA) highest honor for corneal physicians. The award is presented annually to an ophthalmologist in recognition of his/her outstanding contribution to eye banking and EBAA. Dr. Paton is considered the father of modern eye banking and the founder of the first eye bank established in the United States.

This is the second time a CEI doctor received the Paton Award; Dr. Edward Holland was the 2002 recipient.
