Get To Know Dr. Lai

Kevin E. Lai, M.D. is a board-certified, fellowship trained neuro-ophthalmologist at Cincinnati Eye Institute. The shortage of neuro-ophthalmologists in the Midwest, Dr. Lai is part of the faculty at University of Louisville and has joined Cincinnati Eye Institute part-time.  

Dr. Lai is an associate professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Louisville School of Medicine and also holds an adjunct professor position at the Indiana University School of Medicine. He teaches ophthalmology residents at the University of Louisville and Indiana University, and has won several teaching awards. He is extremely involved in the North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society (NANOS), having served in leadership on multiple committees and is currently an at-large member of the NANOS Board of Directors. He has also served on the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s (AAO) Resident Self-Assessment Committee and is currently on the Practicing Ophthalmologist Advisory Committee for Education. He is a two-time recipient of the AAO’s prestigious Secretariat Award and the NANOS Merit Award for his service to respective organizations. 

Dr. Lai was involved in the mass adoption and implementation of telemedicine in neuro-ophthalmology during early COVID, and has authored or co-authored several papers on the intersection of technology and neuro-ophthalmology. He is also the founder and senior content creator of Ophthalmology Review, a website dedicated to training ophthalmology residents and recent graduates in preparation for their board exams. He regularly engages with residents as well as with the American Academy of Ophthalmology to develop effective study strategies in learning ophthalmology. 

Dr. Lai lives in Indianapolis with his wife and four kids. In his rare moments of spare time, he enjoys playing music, puzzles, reading, and playing board games.
